Who We Are
Founded by Richard J Hay, Venetian Plaster Moray is a specialist decorative plastering practice based in the heart of north-east Scotland. We bring the centuries-old tradition of Italian plasterwork to contemporary homes, commercial interiors and heritage properties across Moray, Inverness and Aberdeen.
Every finish we create is applied entirely by hand, layer upon meticulous layer, using premium Italian materials sourced from the renowned Loggia range. The result is a surface of extraordinary depth, movement and tactile beauty that no paint, wallpaper or manufactured panel can replicate.

Our Story
Venetian Plaster Moray was founded by Richard J Hay on a simple conviction: that the walls of a space deserve the same care and artistry as the architecture, furniture and design within it. What began as Richard's deep personal fascination with traditional Italian plastering techniques grew into a dedicated craft practice serving some of the finest homes and interiors in the north-east of Scotland.
Richard's journey started with extensive training in the art of lime-based and marble plaster application, studying the methods that have adorned the palaces, churches and grand villas of Italy for centuries. Through years of hands-on practice, experimentation and refinement, he developed an intimate understanding of how these materials behave, how light interacts with burnished surfaces, and how to coax extraordinary beauty from every layer.
Over the past decade, we have had the privilege of transforming living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, reception areas, restaurants and boutique hotels across Moray, Inverness and Aberdeen. Each project has deepened our expertise and reinforced our commitment to perfection.
Today, we remain a specialist practice by choice. We do not try to be all things to all people. We focus entirely on what we do best: creating hand-applied decorative plaster finishes of the highest possible standard. Richard founded Venetian Plaster Moray with a singular vision: to bring the artistry of traditional Italian plasterwork to the north-east of Scotland. With over a decade of specialist experience in Venetian and polished plaster application, he brings an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and an artist's eye for detail to every project he takes on.
Trained in traditional Italian techniques and continually refining his skills through advanced courses and material innovation, Richard leads every commission personally. His approach is hands-on in every sense: from the initial site visit and colour consultation through to the final burnish and seal. This personal involvement ensures consistency, quality and a result that exceeds expectations every time.
When not on site, Richard can be found experimenting with new textures, testing material combinations and drawing inspiration from the stunning landscapes of north-east Scotland.
